Our Services
Empowering Every Voice Through Meaningful Communication Support
Helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities express themselves, connect with others, and thrive through ODP-approved communication services.
Communication Support Services
At BridgePoint Support Services, LLC, we believe that every individual deserves a voice and the opportunity to be heard. As an ODP approved provider, BridgePoint delivers Communication Specialist Services in alignment with the Office of Developmental Programs Waiver Service Definitions and 55 Pa. Code Chapter 6100.
Our role is to help individuals with communication challenges develop effective, functional, and consistent ways to express themselves. We focus on supporting greater independence, understanding, and participation in everyday life through person centered communication practices.
Service Definition Alignment
According to ODP guidance, Communication Specialist Services include assessing communication needs, planning individualized supports, recommending appropriate communication methods, developing communication support plans, and training the individual and team to use these methods effectively. BridgePoint provides professional assessment, planning, and training services and does not sell or distribute communication devices. Our emphasis is on accurate recommendations and consistent team support.
Comprehensive Communication Assessment
Every service begins with a detailed communication assessment completed by a qualified Communication Specialist. During this assessment, we review expressive and receptive language abilities, current communication methods, comprehension, and any barriers that limit effective communication. We observe the individual in familiar environments and explore possible supports, including no tech, low tech, and high tech options. We then create measurable goals and recommendations that can be added to the Individual Support Plan. A written report is shared with the Supports Coordinator and team to guide service planning.
Low Tech and High Tech AAC Supports
BridgePoint assists individuals and teams with selecting communication systems that match the person’s strengths, needs, and preferences.
Low-tech AAC may include- picture exchange systems, communication boards, symbol books, visual schedules, and choice cards.
High-tech AAC may include speech-generating devices or tablets that use communication applications such as Proloquo2Go, TD Snap, LAMP Words for Life, or Grid. These systems may use touch access, switches, or eye gaze technology.
Eye gaze systems may be recommended when appropriate, but the purchase of eye gaze technology requires a formal evaluation completed by a licensed Speech Language Pathologist. BridgePoint collaborates with the SLP and the team to support this process.
BridgePoint identifies the most effective communication method or combination of methods and ensures the system can be used consistently across home, community, and program settings.
Evidence Based Assessment Tools
To support accurate planning and goal development, BridgePoint may use evidence based tools such as ABLLS R or AFLS. These tools help determine current skill levels, guide data driven communication goals, and measure progress over time. The tools used are selected based on the individual’s age, developmental profile, and needs, in alignment with person centered planning principles.
Waiver Funding and Assistive Technology
When an AAC system is recommended, BridgePoint provides the documentation needed for waiver funding under the Assistive Technology service category. After the assessment is completed, the Supports Coordinator submits the documentation to the Administrative Entity. Once approved, an authorized Assistive Technology vendor supplies the device or materials. BridgePoint continues to provide the training, programming, and consultation needed to ensure the system is used effectively. This process follows ODP Waiver Service Definitions for coordination between Communication Specialist Services and Assistive Technology.
Goal Development and Progress Monitoring
BridgePoint develops individualized communication goals that align with the Individual Support Plan. Progress is documented through evidence based methods and secure digital systems. Goals are reviewed regularly with the team to ensure the communication supports remain functional, appropriate, and effective.
Training and Collaboration
BridgePoint provides ongoing training and consultation for the individual, family members, caregivers, residential staff, day program staff, Supports Coordinators, and other professionals involved in the person’s care. Training may include modeling communication strategies, customizing vocabulary, adjusting environmental supports, and teaching methods that promote independent communication. Collaboration ensures communication supports are used across all settings in daily life.
Our Commitment
BridgePoint Support Services, LLC is dedicated to building stronger communication pathways for every person. Through professional assessment, thoughtful planning, and compassionate support, we help individuals communicate more effectively, connect with others, and participate fully in their communities.
